Our approach
We are committed to supporting the Borough’s diverse range of organisations and volunteers to ensure that Richmond continues to be a wonderful place in which to live. To achieve this goal we have a role in helping to build the capacity and infrastructure of voluntary organisations and in maximising volunteering opportunities for local people.

Building our relationship
The Council's long standing partnership with the voluntary sector is based on a culture of listening to each other and creating a dialogue to explore new opportunities for doing things better and achieving a greater impact.
Richmond Compact
The Richmond upon Thames Compact sets out the way the Council and the voluntary sector have agreed to work together. It contains guidelines and principles to help us support good practice and effective working relationships.
Social Value Act
The Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 aims to help commissioners secure more value for money out of the services they procure, by encouraging commissioners to source new and innovative means of delivering services.

Richmond Voluntary Sector Profile
In 2013, Richmond CVS and Richmond Parish Lands Charity commissioned Richmond upon Thames State of the Sector research to gain up-to-date insight into:
- The value of the voluntary sector and volunteering; the state of partnership working and collaboration;
- The effects of commissioning;
- Future opportunities and challenges for local voluntary organisations; and
- What support is needed by voluntary and community organisations
A copy of the full report can be found on the Richmond CVS website.
We have reviewed the report and produced a summary response to the Survey, and will be working in partnership with Richmond CVS over the coming months on implementing an action plan addressing the key findings.
