New chapter begins for Grimwood Road Garden in Twickenham
4 November 2025
With support from the Council, Habitats & Heritage officially opened the new Grimwood Road Garden on Monday 3 November – an inclusive green space dedicated to sustainability, education and local heritage.
Community groups, local partners and residents gathered to mark the opening of this exciting new space, which will provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to learn, volunteer and connect through nature.
From October 2025, Habitats & Heritage took on the management of Grimwood Road Garden, while Achieving for Children continues to run the Twickenham Training Centre at the site.
Councillor Nancy Baldwin, Spokesperson for Communities, Equalities and the Voluntary Sector, said:
"The opening of Grimwood Road Garden marks a wonderful step forward for our community. Following the Council’s investment, it’s exciting to see the garden becoming a space where everyone can create community through nature.
More spaces like this across the borough mean more opportunities to come together through a shared love of nature and to learn about our local history. Congratulations to everyone involved in creating such a fantastic space !”
Anna King, Deputy CEO of Habitats & Heritage, said: “We were delighted to welcome Her Worshipful Mayor of Richmond upon Thames Cllr Penny Frost to officially cut the ribbon and open the garden at Grimwood Road. She was joined by another very special guest, Hannah, from The People Hive, the first group to have started gardening on the site. The future is bright for this long neglected garden as Habitats & Heritage will be working hard to grow native trees, wildflowers, fruit, vegetables and community.”
The launch offered visitors a taste of what’s to come for Grimwood Gardens, with a range of interactive and sustainable activities. Attendees sowed Yellow Rattle seeds to help establish native wildflower habitats, crafted biodegradable pots, and planted pea seeds to take home and grow – promoting the values of community gardening and local food production.
Visitors also explored informative displays celebrating Twickenham’s rich horticultural history and its longstanding connection to food production and market gardening.
