Support those who support others this Carers Week

6 June 2025

Taking place from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 June, Carers Week celebrates the tremendous contribution of those who care for a loved one and raises awareness of the local support available to carers in our community.

One in eight of us will, at some point in our lives, look after a loved one who has a disability, mental or physical illness, addiction, or who needs extra help as they grow older. These responsibilities affect people of all ages and backgrounds and can be emotionally and physically demanding.

Carers Week 2025, themed ‘Caring about Equality’, is about recognising the challenges carers face and ensuring they have access to the resources and information that can improve their daily lives.

Health bus

This summer, our community health bus will visit various locations, offering 20 minute free NHS health checks, blood pressure checks, stop smoking support, and support for carers. No appointment needed – just drop by!

Staffed by friendly health professionals, including a local pharmacist, our health bus is a convenient one-stop shop for improving your health and wellbeing.

Visit the health bus at the Cargo Bike Fair on Sunday 15 June at Old Deer Park or keep an eye on other upcoming dates.

June activities and offers

To mark Carer’s Week, Richmond Carers Centre supported by OneRichmond, is running a special programme of free activities and workshops for carers throughout the month of June.

Open to registered adult carers, the programme focused on health and wellbeing, offers a chance to relax, recharge, and connect.

Activities include:

  • A trip to Kew Gardens
  • Wellbeing sessions like yoga and mindfulness
  • Creative workshops
  • Social gatherings
  • Informative talks on carers’ rights

You can view the full programme.

Ongoing support

It is crucial to support carers’ health and wellbeing as they provide assistance for their dependents. In Richmond upon Thames, there is a wide range of local support available to help.

As a first step, we strongly encourage all carers to take a free carer's assessment

These assessments help ensure carers receive the right help, whether practical, emotional or financial. Let your GP know you are a carer, they can offer flexible appointments and refer you to specialist services to help you look after your own health.
